A Time to Grieve … A Time to Heal ……

21st September 2013 will go down as one of the darkest days in Kenya’s History, when so many innocent people were terrorized and many gunned down in the Westlands Mall in Nairobi. Suddenly so many loved ones were lost …. Wives, husbands, childrens, grand children, mums, dads, friends, colleagues, neighbors ……There was so much pain and grief in the air … it was almost palpable. Rescue teams were set up quickly. Lotus Healing Seva group was at the forefront in these efforts right from the start. Raj and Alex went to the relief station set up near the scene of the attack, and as the distraught victims were brought in, they held them, and gave them instant Reiki. In Raj’s words ‘one lady had remained under her car for 24 hours! …..’. They were joined by Mamta, Monica, Lata, Yatinder and Pratima who took food provisions for the people carrying out the rescue operations, and also gave Reiki. Then for the next 3 days, they went to the hospitals to give Reiki to those admitted there. But our work did not stop in giving Reiki to the ones hurt and maimed in the tragedy. We realized that there were so many survivors who were in a daze after the incident, so many of them grieving, so many of them still trying to come to terms with what had happened. So we decided to give of ourselves again, by starting a Reiki Trauma Healing Unit. With the kind help of our supporters the proprietors of the Asian Weekly, a room was set aside in their offices for giving Reiki to survivors of the tragedy. Over 4 weeks Punita, Monica, Shalini, Pratima, Jean, Nalina, Saida, Shariffa, Azmina, Priya, Bindi, Baiju and Rashmeen, treated about 30 people and helped them heal emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually. We (Shariffa, Punita, Hardeep, Kamal, Baiju, Yatinder, Rashmeen) also took part in a day long forum, Gateway to Emotional healing for the Westgate tragedy victims. More than 50 people came to our stand to receive our Reiki and Love and Light. Many cried as they received Reiki, and we held them close to our hearts as their tears flowed during this emotional release. It is said that Seva is the rent you pay for living on earth. But Seva is not always easy to come by. We at Lotus Healing Seva Group are so grateful to the Universe / God for affording us these opportunities for doing Seva. May we, till our last breath, give of ourselves to alleviate the pain and suffering of people, to bless others with Reiki, and to share our Love and Light with all. 1. A Time to Heal ... Kenya Group Members Visit The Home for Aged

On Thursday 19th September a large group of us (15) from our LHSG  went to visit an old persons home in Parklands, Nairobi.

When we arrived the residents were sitting outside in the court yard. We were greeted by Nargis, from our group, who spends a great deal of time at the home helping the residents. She does their haircuts and helps them to exercise as a voluntary Sewa. They obviously really love her too! Nargis explained who we were and told them a little bit about Reiki, which many of them had heard about.

The Residents were very keen for us to start healing them straight away. So without further ado we divided the group into pairs and got to work. We healed everyone’s chakras first and then concentrated on any specific problems. Everyone was very grateful and eager to make sure they were not forgotten or missed out. It was a very emotional experience and many people were crying or bursting into song for us.

Many of us had brought gifts for the Residents  and after the healing they were given a snack of cakes, bananas, juice/tea and biscuits which they enjoyed.

While there Raj gave a short session of her wonderful “Laughter Yoga” and we were all relaxed and happy afterwards. Nargis led an exercise session and she really got us all loosened up.

The Mother of the Home – Shanaz , greeted us all and gave us a little history about the place.  She was very concerned that we were careful about anything we wrote about the home and the residents. We reassured her we would be very discreet. Then it was time to leave and all were very grateful and sad to see us go, asking us to come again.

As we left, Shariffa’s comment summed up the morning, she said “It was like a party and we gave them abundance of the heart and a little joy of life”.

Members share their experiences …..

Mamta ….

Gratitude to the Universe for this beautiful opportunity and to Nargis. It was an overwhelming experience.I too felt like Monica that they were looked after v well but the sorrow of loneliness was visible in their eyes. Giving them reiki filled my heart with joy and when they prayed together for us and blessed us so beautifully-we had tears in our eyes! !

The lady I was doing reiki for had gone through a lot -Surgeries for both her breasts due to cancer, severe infections following the surgeries and then her leg was amputated.

Still she sat their with a smile receiving reiki graciously and blessing. She lived in total acceptance and surrender! And that is what she taught me!

I am so grateful to have got this beautiful seva opportunity!

Raj …..

Aum,

I am

Gratitude to the creator and Nargis, who gave us this opportunity of sewa.

I have for the past four years wanting to run a home for the aged, and after the experience on Thursday it has become a more stronger feeling of going to do it.

As soon as I started to give Reiki the lady felt so good and at one stage she said “shukar”nothing is paining now. How blessed I felt that I was an instrument to this sewa.

Tears of joy when we left as they all had a smile and a great wave for us.

Thank you Reiki, thank you universe and thank you all for this sewa that we were able to do.
