LHSG’s Seva Sun Continues To Shine!

What can one give to someone who has very little or nothing? The answer is plenty. You can give them so much …… food, clothing, shelter, money…… But what could you give them that would never finish, always be there, give them good health, heal them when sick, and heal their loved ones and friends too? The only thing that meets these criteria … You guessed right is … empowering them with healing energy!

This then is the mission of Lotus Healing Seva Group, to share our Love and Light with the poor, the poorer and the poorest in our society. On 22nd July, the children of Pamela’s Paradise in the Kibera slums of Nairobi were the recipients of this sharing. Forty seven children between the ages of 3 and 17 came all excited in the morning for their training in Reiki. They were accompanied by 7 equally excited adults! The event took place in a Church hall in Kibera.

After an informative introduction to Reiki by Mamta, they were attuned to Reiki Level 1, and taught how to heal themselves. This was followed by a filling lunch and then how to heal others. Finally, before leaving, they were given cakes and milk, and some throat lozenges that had been kindly donated by Beta Health Care.

And so ended another Reiki camp for LHSG in Nairobi, Kenya. One more chance for us to do seva and bring Light and Love to people. As at the end of every seva, we enjoyed the satisfaction of giving, for which we are always grateful to the Universe. But wait! We got even more. We got to witness the sparkle in the little kids’ eyes, the joy in their smiles as they marveled at the new found energy in their hands, the earnestness with which they did Reiki on themselves and on each other….

At the end of the camp, we wondered … who had given whom? … who had enriched whom? …… For sure there were many many happy and grateful hearts that day!

The members who were privileged to do this seva were Raj, Mamta, Monica, Punita, Anuradha, Brit, Pratima, Bubbles, Shariffa and myself. this brings to 27, the number of Reiki camps we have carried out in Kenya in which 868 people have benefited.

Seva at the Nairobi Hospice

The Kenya members of Lotus Healing Seva Group did Seva at the Nairobi Hospice on Thursday 18 July 2013. Here is the write up by Azmina Mulji, followed by input from some of the other members …..

Twelve members of the Lotus Healing Seva Group including myself lead by our founder Kamal Tolia made our way to the Nairobi Hospice at Kenyatta Hospital to give Reiki to the terminally ill patients.

We introduced ourselves to the patients who welcomed us with applause. The patients introduced each other and described their individual ailments without a word of complaint or self-pity.

Thereafter Kamal  explained to them what Reiki was and what it could do to help them and they listened intently.  Upon being asked whether they would like to receive healing they jumped with enthusiasm, ready to receive.

Healing was given to each patient individually. I gave Reiki to a patient suffering from liver cancer. Her body was so receptive to the healing and I felt the Reiki flowing from my palms like a river. She said she felt the heat from my palms and it made her feel good.

Another patent suffering from stomach cancer told Kamal how good she felt and kept repeating not to stop.

After we completed the healing session, there was a complete change in the aura of the room and the expressions on the faces of all. There was a feeling of peace and calm and gratitude.

My lesson from this experience? I was taken aback by the manner in which these terminally ill persons had accepted and surrendered to what they are going through. I felt very humbled and hope that I be blessed with the same ability to accept and surrender.

My gratitude to God, and the wonderful patients who gave me an opportunity to do this seva.

The Members who did this seva were: Kusum, Bubbles, Punita, Monica, Mamta, Kamal, Anuradha, Shalini, Raj, Pratima Nalina and myself.

I admit at first I was a little nervous as I did not know in what condition the patients would be.

Just when they started introducing themselves and saying how happy they are, I thought what lovely souls knowing that death can knock on their door anytime they still say they are happy to see us.

The young girl I did the Reiki on did not speak English but had a million dollar smile. Even when I finished and guided her to a relaxing chair she smiled and said thank you. She certainly made my day, for the whole day I was in bliss picturing her smile, I should have been the one to say thank You.

I was indeed touched that the creator made it possible for us to do this Sewa.

The visit to Nairobi Hospice was a very humbling experience. The cancer patients were a bit unsure about what we had come to do there, though they were informed we were a support group.

Once they were told about us and we all introduced ourselves, they were very willing to speak to us. They introduced themselves, greeted and welcomed us and mentioned their ailment.

They readily agreed to have Reiki conducted on them, without asking any questions. That made me feel they must be in so much pain that they are prepared to receive help in any way to ease their situation. It was very touching to know how they were handling themselves with so much of acceptance about Cancer and no one spoke in any regretful, pitiful manner.

During the Reiki session, they were all very quiet and just received the hands on individual healing coming their way. After that they rested for a bit and then when we spoke to them, they seemed very happy and relaxed. Triphona, the lady who I did Reiki for said she felt very smooth after the session.

They urged us to visit them again, more often if possible as they enjoyed the HEALING .

I am very grateful for the hospice Seva. It was a very touching experience. The patients were so open to Reiki and they looked so relaxed and happy after experiencing Reiki! They even requested us to come back again. I felt wonderful all day, even after leaving the hospice!!

Love n light!

My gratitude to God and to my Guru for giving me an opportunity to do this SEWA.

When we went there at the hospice I was giving Reiki to Winnie, a lady in a wheel chair and she was very receptive, she felt very relaxed after I was done in spite of being paralysed waist downwards.

To my surprise I found that she was a volunteer there. Despite her disability Winnie is there every Thursday for the other patients who are suffering from Cancer. My heart became heavy and I had this “extremely humbling feeling” which made me SALUTE Winnie!

May we all learn from these little experiences.

Love and light

LHSG India Group makes History!

Our Seva For The Elderly in St Joseph’s Home

St. Joseph’s Home of The Little Sisters of the Poor in Kolkata is the first of 15 homes for India’s indigent elderly, and was set up way back in November 30, 1882.  Mother Teresa was here for 3 months before she started her Missionaries of Charity. Manisha and I had been there earlier for some charity work, but today, 16th July 2013 is a red letter day for us as we started giving Reiki healing physically as a member of LHSG.

People were very supportive and they were ready to receive love and healing instantly. We met:

1. Mr. Taraknath – 65 yrs old,Tumour developed on left side of neck since 3 months, he has been working here since 2010- doctors have said he needs surgery but the nuns have put him under medication – clinging on to faith ….

2. Ms. Lily Sircar 66 yrs old – psychologically, emotionally and mentally disturbed had come here in 2003 and used to love this place – now dislikes being here – no friends too – she is lonely and depressed. Started to cry as I touched her .

3. Mr.Dasgupta… 77 years old, kidney problems ….  needs dialysis n prostrate problems – kind soul – has no fears  . . .

All three were happy to receive healing and further they even asked us when we would come again…… Sister Deepika took my number so she could call us again, as there were many more people who needed healing but were not nearby then.. I had taken a hardcopy of our website’s documentation as an introduction of who we are and our group’s missions.

I felt privileged to be doing this seva. I also felt immense pleasure in giving Reiki to them.. and after listening to their pain, agony & feelings I realized that whatever problem I have in my life is nothing  compared to theirs. So this seva helped me build my own character…good karma indeed. We have decided to visit this place once a week from now as this is a very good opportunity to serve people and help them remain in peace.

Seva at a Girls Shelter

On 5th July, the LHSG Kenya group went to share their Love and Light with the residents of a girls shelter outside Nairobi.

There were 18 girls at this shelter between the ages of 10 – 20 years. They are victims of human trafficking, child labour, sexual abuse, domestic violence and some of them are unaccompanied refugees. They have undergone physical, mental and emotional traumas and are in great need of Reiki healing.

Each girl as well as Dorothy, the manager of the shelter, was given hands on Reiki healing. They all felt very relaxed after the session, and became very cheerful too!

After the healing treatment, we handed out sweaters to them. This made them so happy and excited that they donned them on right away! We also donated sanitary towels, some clothes, and maize meal flour.

So happy were they with the Reiki healing, that they requested us to teach them how to ‘do Reiki’! Accordingly, we are planning to go there next month to train them in this beautiful healing therapy.

The group members that did this seva were Mamta, Shalini, Shariffa, Dee, Jean, Pratima and Kamal.
