LHSG’s 104th Reiki Camp!

Lotus Healing Seva Group has been like a steam engine whistling away on its tracks with no sign of stopping anytime soon! Our July calendar was full …. What with A Reiki Awareness and Free Healing Stand at the BK Wings of Energy Expo, A Free Reiki healing morning at the Raj Yoga Centre, A Reiki 1 camp at Makimei Childrens Home, a Reiki Awareness and Free Healing talk at the Hindu Council Centre, another Reiki 1 camp at the Raj Yoga Centre.  Hardly had we caught our breath, when another opportunity to empower more people with Reiki healing energy came along.

And so it is that on 4th August 2016, Sevaks Mamta and Pratima set out to the Mukuru Outreach Centre  in Mukuru Sinai slums of Nairobi to conduct a Reiki 1 camp. We were told that there would be 20 youngsters who had finished the tailoring / computer courses at the centre who were interested in learn Reiki. But as you will read below, the number who actually came were 28! Some of them came late, so they had to be given a crash course and a quick attunement by Pratima while Mamta carried on the teaching the others.. Having experienced this challenge in other camps before, they were sort of prepared!

Some of the trainees were mums with infants, which had to be fed periodically ….. Well, what can I say? Another challenge for Lotus Healing Seva Group members …. Challenges only serve to increase our resolve to teach at all costs, under all conditions.

To put it simply, wherever, whenever people express a desire to train in Reiki, LHSG rolls up its sleeves and gets to work!

Our thanks go to Martina Lordan, the founder of Mukuru Outreach Centre for allowing us to teach at the Centre and to Mercy, the manager of the Centre who organized the event.

Our LHSG Reiki 1 camp at Mukuru today was a great success!

We had 28 students instead of 20 ! Though we were thrilled about it, It was quite a challenge for Pratima and I to manage that number in the small room plus 5 little babies!!

Adding to the challenge, 6 of the students walked in after the attunement so had to be attuned by Pratima while I continued with the self healing.

All the students were good healers and very happy with the gift of Reiki !

Another very satisfying Sewa for Pratima and me!

The month of July ended on a very auspicious note for members of two organizations in Nairobi- The Lotus Healing Seva Group and The Raj Yoga . On a bright Sunday Morning of 31st July as the sun spread it’s sheen and warmth, selected members of the LHSG made their way to the Raj Yoga Africa Retreat Centre. Adorning their Purple tops these ladies were welcomed by the Women in White who had awaited this day with preparedness.

The occasion was the conduction of Reiki Level 1 camp by LHSG for the Brahmakumaris following the culmination of their mega event Energy of Wings Expo in early July. Various members of the Raj Yoga poured in gradually to join the Brahmakumaris in learning the art of Reiki for self empowerment. This was the 103rd Reiki Camp conducted by LHSG. The highly spiritual energies of the Brahmakumaris combined with the healing energy of Reiki spread immense joy to the 51 people who were attuned to it and felt instant energy movement in their bodies. To their surprise some of them experienced immediate healing from certain aches and pains and were very grateful to the 8 volunteers accompanying the group leader Kamal Tolia.

The camp for the day lasted till 4pm with a holistic lunch break and all of the 51 newly Reiki Trained men and women got to practice giving Reiki Treatment to themselves and one other person. Interestingly there were a few couples among the new learners who shared the gift of healing upon each other as well as a few octogenarians who proved to all that despite their old age they could learn and do Reiki upon themselves and others.

An Introduction To Reiki At the Hindu Council Offices

The Lotus Healing Seva Group was invited to give an Introductory talk on Reiki to members of the Hindu Council, Nairobi.

This took place on 3oth July 2016. To an audience of approximately 30 + people. I spoke of the History of Reiki, how it heals at the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels and is thus a holistic system of healing.

While the talk was going on, we did healing too for those who wanted it. The reactions of the healees were as predicted … they reported feeling free of their pains, stress, tiredness, etc …. all after only a 15 minute free session!

At the end, questions were asked and answers given, and many myths concerning Reiki healing were cleared ….. YOU DONT USE YOUR OWN ENERGY WHEN HEALING , YOU DONT GET TIRED WHEN YOU GIVE REIKI HEALING, AND YOU DO NOT PICK UP ANYBODIES ENERGY WHEN HEALING!

The LHSG Sevaks that took part in this Seva were: Yatinder, Pratima, Lata, Monica and myself. And a special commendation goes to our youngest members of the Group: 12 year old Khushi Samani, and 11 year old Arya Joshi, who did this seva by giving free Reiki healings to members of the audience. They were very new Reiki channels, having completed Reiki level 1 only 3 days ago!

Our gratttude to Hindu Council Cultural and Religious Committee members Sujata Kotamraju and Aradhana Trivedi who organised this event.

Our 102nd Reiki Training Camp.

True to our mission of empowering people with the gentle energy of Reiki, LHSG Kenya continued its tradition of carrying out Reiki training for the underprivileged members of our society. The latest recipients of this seva were the founder Margaret of the Makimei Children’s Home in Gitaru, Nairobi and 7 of their helpers / workers.

The home houses 4 special needs children (cerebral palsy, autistic, etc.), about 30 children aged 2 – 18 years, and infants, babies and toddlers anywhere between 2 days old and 2 years old. All the babies and children have been abandoned. Two of the Reiki learners, Rachael and Francis were themselves products of the home. The only home they had known their whole life was the Children’s home.

It is to such an environment that LHSG Sevaks Mamta and myself Kamal arrived on the morning of 21st July 2016. We had been told that the only suitable place to do the Reiki training was in a tent that had been set up on the grounds of the home. It had been bitterly cold for the last few days, so Mamta and I, all warmly attired in layered clothing, scarves, sweaters and jackets, met with the 8 Reiki trainees in the tent, and proceeded with the imparting of knowledge.

Over the 8 years we have been conducting Reiki camps in the slums, every camp has presented a challenge of sorts. We have taught in places with very primitive toilet facilities, with blaring radios in the dwelling right next to us, with buses and matatus honking away on the streets outside the training room, with the trainees lying down precariously on benches for the attunement, and with over 50 recipients crowded in a tiny room that could only adequately accommodate, at most, 30 people, and so on …. So it was that Mamta and I arrived at this home expecting challenging conditions, but also knowing that ‘everything will work out fine, just as it always had’.

And we were not surprised. This time, our teaching was interrupted with a dog wanting to enter the tent to attend the class …. and a little 3 year old girl wailing away almost nonstop since the morning. The crying only stopped when in the afternoon session, I brought her to the Reiki tent, where she cuddled up to her ‘adopted older brother Francis’ and insisted on remaining there throughout his Reiki receiving session, before falling asleep comfortably in his arms! Later she was handed over to another trainee, ‘her adopted mother’ in the home. And later still, she continued sleeping in my arms. It was so touching to see that these adults who had themselves been through so much pain in their lives were so willingly extending their love and care to another child that was going through the same. Watching this expression of the raw energy of love, tugged at our heartstrings, and both Mamta and I had tears of gratitude in our heart, for we knew we were witnessing pure uncondional love at its best. And as always, we took away more from the training than we gave!

To come back to the training itself, all eight people were great learners, and superb healers. They did self-healing very patiently, not hurrying at any of the chakra positions. This took them a long time, about one hour 45 mins, which is a testament to the need for Reiki in their life.

The camp finished by 3 pm. A lunch of Vegetable burgers, eggless cakes and tea was served to them, and the children were given an apple and chocolate (a luxury for them), and milk when they returned from school.

After taking out photographs, Mamta and I left the home, secure with the knowledge and satisfied that we had reached out once again to uplift the poor by empowering them with healing energy in their own hands.

Thus was our 102nd Reiki training camp, and to date, 2191 have been trained in different levels of Reiki.

Please read Mamta’s account of the camp below and do watch the pictures and videos that follow.

The Reiki 1 camp at Makimei children ‘s home was a great success. We had 8 students and they were eager to learn.  They really took a long ,long time to heal themselves as some of them grew up in this orphanage!

The best thing was that they knew exactly when to move their hands to the next position to heal and would refuse seriously to do so unless the healing was complete!

I was really touched to see how the older children gave comfort to the young ones!

I am happy that now being empowered with Reiki they will make positive changes  in their lives and in the lives of others!

I am grateful for this beautiful Sewa opportunity!
