On 14 February 2010, LHSG sevaks started free Reiki healing sessions of cancer patients and cancer survivors in the newly opened Cancer Centre in Nairobi.
Four LHSG members, based on a rota system, visit the cancer centre for an hour and a half on wednesdays, to give hands on Reiki to patients. The first 4 treatments are free, after which the patient is expected to make a donation to the centre. The proceeds so collected will be used by the centre to treat patients who can’t afford to pay.
In the 3 months since this voluntary service was started, we have channeled Reiki to more than 12 cancer patients / survivors. The results? Draw your own conclusions from the following feedback from the patients:
- ‘I Feel energetic, sleep 7 hours instead of only 4 hours in the past, very relaxing, and no negative thoughts, would recommend it to others! My thanks to the entire Reiki team who are taking the initiative of introducing Reiki to patients like me. I feel I am in another world when I am having a Reiki session. Thanks a million!’
- ‘relaxing for the mind, body, all muscles and joints relaxed, good stamina, would recommend it to others …..’
- ‘I feel better emotionally and mentally, stamina is boosted, sleeping well, very active, and feel great! I enjoy Reiki very much, would definitely recommend Reiki to others!’
- ‘ I am able to tolerate radio therapy better, am not depressed anymore, am able to cope well with the radio treatment. Overall, I feel healthier. I had not heard of Reiki before, but having experienced it, I would recommended it to others.’
- ‘ the pain in my spine has gone!! I am stress free … I feel good and happy all the time … the anger is gone!!! I have a lot of energy, am very relaxed and healthy, am sleeping much better than before, and will definitely recommend Reiki to others. Good Work, LHSG!’
- ‘After a chemotherapy session, Reiki helps me to detoxify … feel very relaxed, and no negative thoughts, no wasteful thinking! Very energized after a Reiki session, have been sleeping much better than before. My attitude towards meditation has changed, I take it more seriously and have already noted its benefits! My opinion is that Reiki does wonders for your body and for your mental health in particular …I love Reiki and hope to continue it even after I have recovered….. ’
