October every year is breast cancer awareness month. The LHSG had set aside 15th October to mark this month by conducting a Free Reiki workshop for breast cancer patients, survivors, carers, their friends and families.
In order that people can make an informed choice of whether to sign up for this workshop, on 27th September 2011, LHSG made a presentation of Reiki and its healing benefits especially for cancer patients. Kamal Tolia explained how Reiki works and elaborated on its many benefits eg. how it helps reduce pain, helps cancel the effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, helps us to cope emotionally with all aspects of the illness, aids better sleep, and most importantly, helps us gain a positive outlook on life.
Following the talk Free Reiki treatments were offered by the LHSG members Prafulla, Laxmi and Kamal. The support group members jostled each other to be the first ones to receive this free treatment! In all, 15 were treated that day.
At the end of the talk, 33 people had signed up to participate in the workshop on October 15th!
