In early January 2016, The Lotus Healing Seva Group (Kenya) extended its Love and Light to a special group of people at The Talia Agler Girls’ Shelter. This shelter houses around 30 young girls aged 7 – 20 that have been victims of exploitation (child labour), trafficking and physical, mental, sexual abuse.
We have been going every week to offer Reiki treatments to these girls and the management. To date we have gone there 5 times, and the results are already showing! The previously shy, inconfident, fearful girls have begun to smile, show confidence, and express themselves better.
We have also treated them to some goodies like cake, biscuits, milk, and made donations of underwears, buckets, clock, writing books, clothes, books, etc.
Along with our reiki treatments, one of our members, Srinidhi Rao, a counselor by profession has been counseling 4 girls there. Below are the thoughts and feelings penned down by Monica Gokaldas, Nuri Abdul, and Priya Sud Choudhry ….. The photos were taken over 5 weeks. Along with the girls and LHSG members, they include the proprietor of the shelter Edith Morogo, the Manager Christine Macharia and other people of the shelter.

Monica Gokaldas …..
Their faces oh so sad
Their eyes oh so lonely
Their voices oh so silent
Their spirits oh so cold
The girls at the TAGS
Shook up all emotions
The suffering must have
Been oh so terrible
That silenced them in
their youthful playful age
The trauma unspoken
Speaks through the eyes
The vacant corner in the heart
Must have shed oh so dry tears
Fortunate indeed we are
With love and light shared
By our bare powered hands
Trying to heal the girls there
Wounded past rubbing shoulders
With their promising present & future
Reiki gives solace to some
While some shy to acknowledge
The healing powers showered
Upon the dampened ambitions
I wish, I hope, I target their smiles
Dreaming of their happiness & joy
Their toes twisting to music notes
Swirling in a dance, step by step
The day when they shall not be shy
And will voice their thoughts in words.
Accept challenges and gain that
Much needed courageous outlook.
Turn the negative into positive
Educated, Empowered, Enhanced
Emotions flowing and healing hurts
LHSG supporting by their side
Touching life by touching lives.
Sharing and caring is celebrating
Makar Sankranti gets new meaning.
Nuri Abdul …..
Our visit was such a heart rendering experience. The girls at “tag” were informed of our arrival and we were advised of their circumstances and that if they were shy or not meeting our eyes, it was of their circumstances, which made even trusting their own very difficult. We were showed every “dormitory” and every room & as we were walked around, there was an emergency !! Winnie was in labour!! The brave girl, calmly walked around trying to get her bags packed, being so very well assisted by the Helpers (who seemed familiar with such circumstances but were excitedly packing clothes for the baby too). Our visit to the classroom allowed us to see all the girls, age ranging from as young as 10 (or 8??) to 22!! All of them were there for a “sad” reason. There were 2 babies too. One being namedPrince Charles!! However, they were all uniformed and given a good opportunity to study, to bake, to cook, to live a normal life!! They seemed to be accepting their new lives with calmness!! Cookie & Grace did a great job teaching with Monica adding wise words too!! They all accepted Reiki whole heartedly allowing us to touch them as well!! The calmness on their faces indicated that our Reiki family will grow there too!! I am humbled and so grateful for the opportunity to help in any small way too!! Love and Light
Priya Sud Chaudhary ….
Have just come back from the girls shelter and feel very emotional. We gave reiki to girls as young as 10, saw girls who in other circumstances would have been studying or playing holding little babies in their arms. But for all the difficulties in their lives the girls seemed quite cheerful, and were very receptive to the reiki being given to them. A very humbling experience. Gratitude for such opportunities
