A Time To Celebrate!

Celebration is in the air for Lotus Healing Seva Group!

LHSG Africa Group (Kenya, Tanzania, and Zambia) celebrate as they complete a centenary of Reiki training camps in Africa!

The 100th Free Reiki Training camp was held on 10th August 2018 at the Community hall of the Shree Sanatana Dharma Sabha Hindu Temple in Nairobi. The recipients of this training were parents and neighbours of children from Mukuru Sinai slums who we had earlier trained in Reiki Level 1 and teachers and Headmistress of St. Peter’s School for Special Children.

The eager participants arrived (some with their babies!) all ready to learn. The theory and background of Reiki was introduced to them, followed by the attunement and then practical application of healing themselves and others. At the end of it all, they shared their surprise and delight at being completely healed of their aches and pains, their stress and their worries!

As always, it is a joy to be able to touch others’ lives, especially that of the forgotten and downtrodden, the poor and destitute. The LHSG Sevaks that had the privilege of doing this seva were Monica Gokaldas, Lata Kanji, Punita Acharya, Mamta Advani, Pratima Dutt, Bhavna Baga, and I, Kamal Tolia and our LHS(Y)G youth Group memebrs 13 year olds Khushi Samani and Arya Joshi!

God and the Universe continue to bless us with these seva opportunities. We remain grateful!

Our special gratitude goes to the Director Deepak Mediratta of the SSDS temple who so generously allowed us the use of the hall for free and to the manager Mr. Sudhir Vashishta who helped us in all ways, and to Anju Sahni for her interest in our work.

Please continue reading and do watch the videos which tell it all!

It seems like yesterday when we commenced our journey as Lotus Healing Seva Group and conducted our first Reiki Camp for 110 members of the society in Nairobi. Humble beginnings that had begun once 8 years ago at the auspicious premises of a Hindu Temple premises have now witnessed our hundredth camp at the same Function Hall. A hundred camps means to me a hundred such days of empowering lives with the beautiful disciple of Reiki Healing.

The camp on 10th August was a fruitful one with the world getting the gift of 62 new healers besides a few babies who also accompanied their mothers. These babies who were initially slightly cranky soon calmed up with the blessed energies of Reiki as they too received the Reiki attunement.

The teachers and parents who attended left the premises by left afternoon all excited and charged up by the Reiki Knowledge, their certificates, the fulfilling morning refreshments, a substantial lunch and afternoon snacks of cookies and cakes with backpacks of goodies.

The group of ten men and women that were practicing partner reiki under my guidance were like perfect healers, each pausing to give Healing and progressing further at their own pace. One man mentioned that he had toothache and his partner asked me if he had to put the hand inside the partner’s mouth and I guided him to the correct way of doing it. The man was happy that the pain had gone after the healing. Another woman called Violet was happy at her leg pain being reduced and the movement had become smoother.

Such moments of seeing the little changes had brought some shift in these slum dwellers lives and empowered them to attend to themselves and others without spending on medication. I feel very grateful to the opportunity of being a sevak at this camp and would also like to extend my gratitude to the management of Shree Sanatan Dharam Sabha.

Our 100th Reiki training camp at SSDS Mandir for the adults from Mukuru slums was excellent! I feel that they will benefit deeply at the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.

The Camp at Sai School was full of challenges this time. The cold room (the windows wouldn’t close),the construction going on hardly 10 feet away (dust and noise from the big machines and laborers) ,the delay in starting ( we waited for 3 children to finish their exam) and the delay in the school serving lunch to the children. The camp still went well.

The children were just as awesome as they usually are- very eager to learn and disciplined.

The best part was that we had surprise visitors from education ministry and members of Sai School foundation. They were very curious to know what Reiki is and how it would help the children.

We in turn asked the children to tell us how reiki has helped them. They said since they learnt and practiced reiki they don’t fall sick that often , they take no/less medicines as they cure their headache, stomach ache and stress. They can concentrate better on their studies. They even help their family members/friends when they have pain by doing Reiki for them.

That is how Reiki has helped these children to be healthier themselves and to be compassionate towards others. This is the way to make them better human being and conscious citizens of the country!

The visitors were very happy and so were we.

We look forward to more Reiki camps to empower more and more people with Reiki.

As we entered the Sathya Sai School, I was amazed to see the way School was maintained with beautiful plants and flowers. Children were very well behaved, following our instructions carefully. It was a pleasure to see their dedication and concentration towards learning Reiki. Mamta and Punita are brilliant teachers. I’m sure the children will definitely benefit from this knowledge which was given to them. Although, it was very cold and noisy, we managed to complete our seva easily. While group healing, I experienced positive energy from these lovely children. I’m very grateful for this seva opportunity. Thank you

An Empowerment Program for Mukuru Outreach Academy

The morning of Friday 20th July saw Lotus Healing Seva Group’s Mamta Advani and Nalina Rupani leave for Nairobi’s Industrial Area. Their mission was to introduce the children and teachers of Mukuru Outreach Academy to Yoga, Pranayam, Meditation and Nutrition.

The 2 hour program was carried out in a rough open field next to the railway track in Industrial area. Flocks of goat neighing in the background did not dampen their spirits as Mamta and Nalina took them through some yoga asanas taught them a few breathing techniques, spoke about correct nutrition and did some meditation.

The 160 children and 3 teachers that attended were very happy with the program and will be implementing it in their daily curriculum. Lotus Healing Seva Group has been sponsoring children’s education in this school, have trained them in Reiki Level 1 a few months ago, and we will continue empowering these children with periodic programs of this kind.

Please watch the video and read on for Mamta’sand Nalina’s accounts below.

Thank you!

Today, Friday 20th July, Nalina and I went to teach Yoga and Meditation to the children in Mukuru.

They were eagerly waiting for us at the field near a railway track.

I started with spot jogging, forward and side bends leading them to tad asana and Dhruv asan. They learnt to sit in the vajra asan and do manduk asan. They also learnt Vakra asana.

Nalina then spoke to them about the importance of breathing deeply, eating the right food and drinking enough water .

She taught them Bhastrika and recitation of Aum. She concluded with a short Meditation with the repetition of sound ‘La’.

We did a revision of the whole session so that they can continue to practice every day before lunch.

We were happy to know that they have been practicing Reiki on themselves and others. We revised the chakras with them. We gave them some biscuits .

We had a great time with them and the children were very happy to learn Yoga . The children were very sweet, the teachers and the headmaster were very co-operative. We enjoyed our Sewa thoroughly!

As we went to Mukuru I was thinking about how it will pan out as we were to teach in an open field. In my imagination I thought of a field in the middle of a crowded area in the slum and had a few thoughts about whether we will be heard with all the noises around….and when we arrived we were taken to this nice quiet open field away from the hustle and bustle. This is how the divine works I thought to myself. The children were already there waiting for us and welcomed us with their teachers. Mamta set off the pace by first showing and doing yoga with the children. After this I had a discussion with them about the importance of breath, how to breathe deeply, I shared with them knowledge about the importance of drinking enough water, good eating habits, being in the present moment, being positive and committed in life. We then went on to teach them the Bhastrika breath, leading to the sound of AUM and then did a meditation with the la la sound. By the time we did AUM with them all the children were in a meditative mode already. After the meditation they shared that they felt very energised and relaxed and peaceful. The teachers said they will practice with the children what we had taught for 40 days. We had taken biscuits for them which we gave to them at the end. It happened to be my daughter Aleena’s birthday and it gave me an opportunity to treat the children with the biscuits. It was overall a very gratifying experience to touch the children’s lives by sharing with them this knowledge. The time just flew and it was a wonderful way to have spent the morning.
