Another Reiki Camp … in the Kangemi Slums!

Goodness and knowledge is incomplete unless shared with others. On the 7th of June 2014, the LHSG Kenya group was a happy lot as they shared their knowledge with some very willing people. The group represented by a few members, Shariffa, Pratima, Mamta, Neena, Myself Monica and youth member Harleen under the guidance of our Guru Kamal Tolia went to the Kangemi slums at a place called Kangemi Resource Centre where we taught Reiki 1 to 39 people.

It was amazing to watch the eagerness among the people who hurriedly set up the hall for learning by arranging the chairs and benches. The people some of whom were the staff members of the Resource Centre and the rest were from nearby areas learnt with an enthusiasm very apparent on their faces. They all seemed very understanding, and were an educated lot who were able to grasp things very quickly.

While practicing self Reiki or partner Reiki they did not need to be corrected much. There was a wise quietness around as Kamal taught and guided the group of new learners. They were quite attentive and serious learners. It was very touching to see their eagerness to gain this new knowledge as they did not fidget around or move around unnecessarily and deep within we all members had a sense of gratitude at sharing this knowledge yet again. Some of them had very worthy questions which were answered individually by all the group members as well as some general questions which Kamal answered.

The KRC run by a lady called Alix, was a very neat place. Despite the unusual roads and muddy potholes (where the cars gave us a roller coaster effect) we didn’t mind being there as the children and the elders at the Centre were so welcoming towards us. With bare minimum facilities and the just sheltering structure of the venue they all were happy people and we felt happy being with them for the day.

It is always an eye opener and a humbling experience going to such places as that keeps us grounded to our responsibilities towards the very society we live in. Looking at those keen faces, it felt as these are the very people who build our country. By inculcating the Reiki habits, educating them about the five basic principles of Reiki, this bunch of people will turn out motivators for so many others around them as once a person practices such arts, they reflect from the core of the person towards the environment.

While going through the practical session of the class, many of them used terms like Super, Awesome, Amazing etc at asking how they felt being healed. Quite a few were relieved of their various aches and pains by just one session of healing they did. It was surprising that in their very first experience with Reiki, some of them did it faster than others while some took extra long time on their own body healing. This was proof enough that they had understood the discipline of Reiki very well and knew exactly when to move their hands from one chakra to another.

Most of them wanted the group to visit them again to teach to the others who could not join on the day and also to learn Reiki second level for themselves.

During the lunch break the group served a treat of delicious Samosas and scrumptious veggie burgers for the students.

LHSG Reiki camp on7/6/14 at Kangemi Resource Centre was yet another beautiful sewa opportunity. The 39 students who learnt Reiki were very receptive. They showed a lot of interest and also had lovely experiences during attunement. It was very gratifying to watch them do self and partner healing with so much patience and dedication. I thank the universe and Kamalji for giving us these wonderful sewa opportunities to be able to empower people with the beautiful gift of reiki!!

Reiki Camp at the Kangemi Resource Centre  Alix d’Ansembourg has been running a resource centre in the informal sector of Kangemi for the lasts ten years. This resource centre reaches out to the local community to give them a safe space to use the library, computer room, sports area, yoga, recreation and a place where mothers can leave their little ones when they go to work. Alix, upon hearing of the Seva of the Lotus Healing Seva Group invited forty people to the centre to learn more about Reiki.

Kamalji explained the notion of the universal energy flowing through the universe and us. The energy when attuned helps us heal ourselves and centres the energy naturally occurring within us. The participants, ranging from youth of twenty and older people of fifty, were  very receptive to the idea. They understood the energy centres of the body, the chakras.

They were calm and peaceful during the attunement. They certainly enjoyed the self healing, their faces calm and concentrated on the feelings of warmth and tingling. Their awareness of the changes in their body were discussed freely after the experience. The healing that they did for each other was done from the heart with sincerity. All of the participants experienced immediate calm, peace, relaxation, their headaches, joint aches, stomach upsets disappeared.

They loved the lunch LHSG provided. They shared. The children at the centre sang and danced. Indeed everyone left enriched and fulfilled.

They were all proud to receive their certificates, and they said they would practice and be ready for level two!!

  1. Sharing liberates us
    Gives us service
    Empowers us
    And those who receive
    So much joy
    In paying it forward
    there is an innate
    Expansion in reaching out
