Stawisha Maisha – An Asian Foundation Exhibition

We were invited to participate in an exhibition by The Asian Foundation, Kenya. The Asians of Kenya are people that have their origins in India, Pakistan and other countries in the Indian peninsula. The theme of the exhibition was Stawisha Maisha, Kiswahili for Transforming Lives. The exhibition ran from 11th – 14th May 2017

Transforming Lives is what Lotus Healing Seva Group is all about! So we took up the offer, and took our place among many other philanthropic organisations operating in Kenya to uplift the poor, the needy, the destitute, the marginalized.

As usual our stand was the most popular in the hall, because of the free Reiki treatments we were offering to the public. Over the 4 days of the exhibition, we gave Reiki to no less than 294 people! Men, women, children all flocked to our stand to experience that special healing touch!

We also received oral testimonials from a few grateful recipients which have been recorded on video below.

Video 1.A lady who had diabetes, came for Reiki for an open sore on her leg. After receiving just one Reiki treatment, the oozing had stopped and the wound was beginning to heal! She was very grateful!

Video 2. An elderly man in a wheel chair was suffering from Parkinsons Disease. According to his Care giver, he could not walk properly, used to shuffle his feet while walking and get tired after a few steps. Bubbles Dhadialla gave him full body healing, after which he stood up and walked with support, confidently, without shuffling his feet at all. Not only that, he walked a fair distance, to the total amazement of his care giver and all watching him at the exhibition, and with a happy smile on his face! He too was very grateful, kept saying Thank you!

Video 3. Over 4 years ago, we had a terrorist attack in one of our malls in Nairobi. Young 15 year old Bhavya Barot was severly wounded in his arms and legs, and he had grenade bits in over 70 percent of his body. Lotus Healing Seva Group gave him Reiki treatments at the hospital and later at his home when he had been discharged. Four years later, this young man came up to our stall to give his thanks to the LHSG!

The LHSG Sevaks that did this seva were Rashmeen, Nalina, Shalini, Pooja, Laveena, Cooky, Bindi, Lata, Bubbles, Anuradha, Grace, Sheela, Priya, Sheela, Monica, Pratima, Mamta, Punita and myself, Kamal. We were also joined by 4 young girls from the Hawkers Market Girls Centre. These girls had been trained in Reiki by us.

Stawisha  Maisha

The participation at the Stawisha Maisha Exhibition not only made us at LHSG aware of various organizations helping the society in their own way, it also brought an exposure to our group. The three day event saw us introducing the drug less therapy called Reiki to numerous people of who 294 experienced the healing with hands from our committed team of healers.

With a humble decor of our stall depicting our simplistic down to earth approach we had to make a very early beginning- literally within minutes of the Exhibition declared officially open. No sooner did the gates open to public than we had a few curious enquirer visitors who wanted to understand what our group was all about. I asked thefFirst visitor, a lady if she would like to experience what I had just explained to her. She agreed readily and was spellbound at the way she felt relaxed.

After that, there was no looking back and no time to pause till the exhibition finally closed on the third day. The LHSG stall that started off with three chairs eventually had eight or more chairs at given times with times when we had a huge queue of people awaiting their turn to experience Reiki. We were overflowing and I even gave Reiki to a few people at a neighboring stall as our stall with all chairs occupied had a lot more healers and healees than we could accommodate.

On a personal front I am full of gratitude as this event came at a time when I was grieving the loss of my mother a few days back. The seva opportunity that came with Stawisha Maisha helped me ease my grief. The minute I would place my hands on someone to give healing, I felt a sense of relief and forgot my grief for the duration. In my heart, I knew that I had dedicated this seva to the memory of my loving mum. That made me feel satisfied besides helping others.

Some of the perks that we sevaks received were the lovely comments from the people who experienced the Reiki moments such as : . ” unbelievable “, ” such a calm feeling”, “oh my God, my headache’s gone”, ” I feel so relaxed” , ” how did you do this?” ” you have magic in your hands” and many more such heartwarming words. The icing on the cake was when on Day 2 we had Bubbles giving Reiki to an elderly gentleman on his wheelchair who wished to walk after the healing. He walked the way he hadn’t done in a long time and the video clip below speaks all for the miracle moment of joy.

Lastly I would like to express gratitude to our guru  Kamal Tolia who has guided us all so well on the path of seva and instilled the wonderful teamwork spirit amongst us group members. My gratitude would be incomplete without expressing my appreciation towards Punita Acharya who took charge of affairs ref this event from the very conceptual stage and carried it forward with her efficient maturity from sorting the documentation to planning, stall decor and the volunteer rota. Thanks also goes out to the LHSG sevaks who dedicated their time and efforts to this beautiful seva.
