Our 102nd Reiki Training Camp.

True to our mission of empowering people with the gentle energy of Reiki, LHSG Kenya continued its tradition of carrying out Reiki training for the underprivileged members of our society. The latest recipients of this seva were the founder Margaret of the Makimei Children’s Home in Gitaru, Nairobi and 7 of their helpers / workers.

The home houses 4 special needs children (cerebral palsy, autistic, etc.), about 30 children aged 2 – 18 years, and infants, babies and toddlers anywhere between 2 days old and 2 years old. All the babies and children have been abandoned. Two of the Reiki learners, Rachael and Francis were themselves products of the home. The only home they had known their whole life was the Children’s home.

It is to such an environment that LHSG Sevaks Mamta and myself Kamal arrived on the morning of 21st July 2016. We had been told that the only suitable place to do the Reiki training was in a tent that had been set up on the grounds of the home. It had been bitterly cold for the last few days, so Mamta and I, all warmly attired in layered clothing, scarves, sweaters and jackets, met with the 8 Reiki trainees in the tent, and proceeded with the imparting of knowledge.

Over the 8 years we have been conducting Reiki camps in the slums, every camp has presented a challenge of sorts. We have taught in places with very primitive toilet facilities, with blaring radios in the dwelling right next to us, with buses and matatus honking away on the streets outside the training room, with the trainees lying down precariously on benches for the attunement, and with over 50 recipients crowded in a tiny room that could only adequately accommodate, at most, 30 people, and so on …. So it was that Mamta and I arrived at this home expecting challenging conditions, but also knowing that ‘everything will work out fine, just as it always had’.

And we were not surprised. This time, our teaching was interrupted with a dog wanting to enter the tent to attend the class …. and a little 3 year old girl wailing away almost nonstop since the morning. The crying only stopped when in the afternoon session, I brought her to the Reiki tent, where she cuddled up to her ‘adopted older brother Francis’ and insisted on remaining there throughout his Reiki receiving session, before falling asleep comfortably in his arms! Later she was handed over to another trainee, ‘her adopted mother’ in the home. And later still, she continued sleeping in my arms. It was so touching to see that these adults who had themselves been through so much pain in their lives were so willingly extending their love and care to another child that was going through the same. Watching this expression of the raw energy of love, tugged at our heartstrings, and both Mamta and I had tears of gratitude in our heart, for we knew we were witnessing pure uncondional love at its best. And as always, we took away more from the training than we gave!

To come back to the training itself, all eight people were great learners, and superb healers. They did self-healing very patiently, not hurrying at any of the chakra positions. This took them a long time, about one hour 45 mins, which is a testament to the need for Reiki in their life.

The camp finished by 3 pm. A lunch of Vegetable burgers, eggless cakes and tea was served to them, and the children were given an apple and chocolate (a luxury for them), and milk when they returned from school.

After taking out photographs, Mamta and I left the home, secure with the knowledge and satisfied that we had reached out once again to uplift the poor by empowering them with healing energy in their own hands.

Thus was our 102nd Reiki training camp, and to date, 2191 have been trained in different levels of Reiki.

Please read Mamta’s account of the camp below and do watch the pictures and videos that follow.

The Reiki 1 camp at Makimei children ‘s home was a great success. We had 8 students and they were eager to learn.  They really took a long ,long time to heal themselves as some of them grew up in this orphanage!

The best thing was that they knew exactly when to move their hands to the next position to heal and would refuse seriously to do so unless the healing was complete!

I was really touched to see how the older children gave comfort to the young ones!

I am happy that now being empowered with Reiki they will make positive changes  in their lives and in the lives of others!

I am grateful for this beautiful Sewa opportunity!

    Dear LHSG
It sounds like Makimei is the microcosm of our world today.
Where we are deafened by cries of dispair, unattended
Where basic human right of shelter ,water, food are dented
    Marginalized are minorities,poor,displaced and abandoned
The mood of isolation spreads in the slums and globally
Fear and xenophobia is the colour of the day for me and them
REIKI the universal energy through its healers know better
It reaches out and breaks those barriers to give a healing hand
To embrace, accept, engage in and give empathetic nderstanding
So that there are pools of hope here and there and it ripple
Effects spread and interconnect as we are indeed interconnected
    Bravo!hongera!

Once again the selfless hands of seva
    With hearts full of giving
    Have reached out
    To empower and enrich
    Those who further help others
The cycle of love flows and glows
    In abundance it grows
With the Divine Love and Light

A great feeling of joy and abundance. I can well relate to this healing as I work with autistic children everyday.
Blessed are the hands that heal and send love. You are the chosen ones.
