A home for Children aged 6 – 17 years that have been in conflict with the law, which may just be being caught for stealing sweet potatoes from a neighbour’s field, or for hawking, or for not going to school. A home which also houses children that have been abused by family and relatives, children that have been abandoned, children that have run away from home, and …… children trafficked for labour or for sex from the neighbouring countries.
Such a home is The Nairobi Children’s Remand Home, set in the suburb of Lower Kabete in Nairobi. Lotus Healing Seva Group has been volunteering in this home with Reiki healing Seva since January 2019. This has been possible because of the kind permission of the Manager Daniel K Njama and the excellent support of the Deputy Manager Reverand Gudah. Gratitude also goes to Erastus Kwako and Juliette Gikunda, who have been a great help every week in getting the room and the children ready. Without their help, it would have been very difficult for us to continue with our voluntary work.
Each time we have been visiting the home, it tears our heart out to know and see what these poor children have to suffer in their young life. We hope that with the Reiki healing we help in lessening their emotional and physical pain.
On 18th December, after the Reiki session, we had a small Christmas and end of year celebration with them. We treated them to cakes, milk, bananas and mandazi (a Kenyan sweet bread), which they loved very much and which we have captured in the video below.
And so we completed a year of Reiki healing at the Remand Home and look forward to
continuing our Reiki work in the coming year.
