The Six Laws of the Universe (Section 1)

The Six Laws of the Universe

Introduction …

What is the difference between you, animals, plants and minerals? A nine year old will tell you that minerals (stones and soil) are non living as they cannot move, while plants, animals, and humans are living things because they move, grow and die. This explanation remains pretty much the same through our adult life. But a little mature inspection reveals that there is more to it than meets the eye.

For example, plants, animals and human beings have feelings while minerals do not. Animals and humans have feelings, agreed, but plants? Yes they do. Any gardener or plant lover will tell you that a plant will grow well and flourish only in a particular spot in the garden that it prefers. And have you tried talking to your plants? If you haven’t, then do so, and watch how they respond to your love and attention by growing strong and healthy and flowering profusely!

Now to animals and humans. Are both the same? Although we do have a commonality in that we are born, grow old and die, a human being is quite different from an animal. An animal is programmed for most of its existence —- what to eat, when to sleep, when to procreate …. It does not have to think much about choosing. Choice is already programmed in the animal.

Not so the humans. We have a Free Will with which we can decide what we want / don’t want every moment of our life. A new born baby lives a lot by instinct, feeding when hungry, sleeping when sleepy, etc. But in a few short months it starts to assert itself. It becomes very demonstrative about its likes and dislikes. As it grows older it very clearly expresses what, when and how it wants to do things or not do them at all! It expresses its Free Will to choose.

The adult human then, is quite different from animals, plants and minerals. Even so, there is one common factor in all, a common ‘thread’ that runs through all of creation. It is called Consciousness. Since everything was created by God, everything that we can see, hear, taste, smell and feel has come from God, and therefore has God consciousness in it.

This God part in us is easy to understand, but in animals, plants and minerals? I will take the analogy of electricity to make it clearer. The electricity in the light bulb, the radio, the heater is the same. But because the instruments through which it passes are different, it manifests differently. In the light bulb it produces light, in the radio sound, and in the heater heat. In the same way, the Consciousness in minerals, plants, animals and humans is the same, it just expresses itself differently due to the difference in the material which it inhabits.

This common connection in all expressions of the Universe is the basis of interdependency between its various forms. This inter relationship is governed by certain laws, which we call the 6 Laws of the Universe.

The Six Laws of the Universe

Law No 1: The Law of Thought

Everything that we see in the Universe was at the beginning, a thought. A simple example will illustrate this. When a potter wants to make a pot, first he has the thought of creating the pot in his mind. Next he visualizes what the pot should look like ….. its size, shape, colour. Up until then, it is all in his head. Next he gets the material (the soil) and creates the pot with his hands, i.e. he manifests it into an object which can be touched, felt, seen and appreciated.

This example can be extended to any artist’s creation. First he thinks and visualizes what he wants to create, gets the materials to create it, uses the materials to paint, and voila, you have a beautiful painting which everybody can see, touch and appreciate.

In the Universe too, ALL OUR THOUGHTS BECOME OUR REALITY! This may be instantaneous, or it may take years, but whatever the time involved, ALL OUR THOUGHTS EVENTUALLY MANIFEST. THEY BECOME REAL!!

Let us take an example. Suppose you think that you want a special car. You visualize its colour, make, size, etc. If you think and visualize this often enough, then sooner or later you will get the car! How does that work? You did steps 1 and 2 (thinking and visualizing), the Universe did 3 and 4 (materializing the car for you)!!

This is the function of the Universe. It will give you what you desire! Isn’t this wonderful? It means we can have what we want!

Now go one step further. Instead of settling for material things like cars, houses etc, how about creating at the mental and emotional levels? Will it work? Yes it will. Simply think of Love, Happiness, Joy, Sharing, Friendship, etc. and the Universe will comply by giving you Love, Joy, Sharing, Friendship, etc. in your life. Too simple to be true? Maybe. But most effective things in life are a result of very simple steps.

Going back to the example of the Potter:

(1)  Potter thinks and visualizes (seed) à (2) Potter works (energy) à (3) Result Pot, Matter (Creation)

In the case of our Love world, we are helped by the Universe in Step 2 and 3.

(1)  You think Love thoughts (seed)  à (2) Universe works (energy) à (3) Universe creates Result: LOVE in your life (Creation)

And if everybody thinks these same thoughts of LOVE all the time, there will be nothing but Love everywhere, all the time!

Unfortunately the following is also true:

(1)  You think Hate thoughts (seed) à (2) Universe works (energy) à (3) Universe creates Result: Hate in your life (Creation)

And if enough people think Hate, that is exactly what we will have in the world: HATE!

So the first Law of the Universe says: YOU CAN CREATE YOUR REALITY WITH YOUR THOUGHTS!

THINK POSITIVE THOUGHTS EVERY TIME, ALL THE TIME.

BY CHANGING OUR THINKING, WE CAN CREATE DIFFERENTLY!

 Next: Choice and Accountability

The Six Laws of the Universe

Law No 2: The Law of Choice and Accountability

Last week we saw how our thoughts create our world. The same holds true for our feelings. Feelings are thoughts laden with emotions.

Whenever we have an experience and we feel, that feeling is also sent out to the Universe. This happens naturally, without wishing or even becoming aware it.

And what is the result? The Universe sends us similar experiences again and so we can feel the same feeling again and again. This is the job of the Universe. It is programmed to give back our thought as manifested reality and our feelings as experiences.

SO CHOOSE HOW YOU WANT TO FEEL. IF YOU WANT THE UNIVERSE TO GIVE YOU SITUATIONS THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY, CHOOSE HAPINESS NOW.

If you choose to be sad now, your sad feelings will fly out into the universe compelling it to give you back more situations to make you sad again.

People tell me that sometimes it is impossible not to feel sad in certain situations. But I say we always have a choice of how we want to feel. Yes, we might feel a negative emotion like sadness, depression at some point in our life. When this happens, we must consciously reverse these feelings and focus, focus, focus on what is positive in our lives. SIMPLY REFUSE TO FOCUS ON THE NEGATIVE, SHIFT YOUR FOCUS TO WHAT IS POSITIVE. If the situation at hand has nothing positive about it, mentally leave the situation and think of a happier situation which may or may not be related to the present negative situation. As your thoughts change, so will your feelings.

The second Law of the universe tells us that WE ARE ACCOUNTABLE AND RESPONSIBLE FOR HOW WE FEEL. HOW WE FEEL IS NOT UNDER THE CONTROL OF OTHERS, IT IS IN OUR POWER.

If you don’t like what is coming / happening to you, choose again, and again, and again, until you experience what you wish to experience. Eg. It starts to rain, you become wet, uncomfortable, etc. You don’t want to get wet? Protect yourself ….. build a roof over your head. This is a simple law. You don’t like what is happening to you (getting wet), you choose …. Do you want to get wet, or do you not want to get wet?

The second Law of the universe governs this same principle. YOU CHOOSE. Do you want to be Happy? Do you want to be Sad? The universe has the responsibility to honour our intentions, thoughts and feelings.

In summary, let us stop blaming God, the universe etc. for what is happening in our lives. We are the ones who have set the events in motion that are creating all that is happening in our lives right now. We have attracted these consequences. We are now bound to them. We have to go through them.

Remember, the Universe has no choice but to give you back what you feel. But YOU, YOU HAVE A CHOICE OF HOW YOU WANT TO FEEL. FOR AS YOU FEEL, SO IT WILL BECOME!

Next: The Law of Cause and Effect

The Six Laws of the Universe

Law No 3: The Law of Cause and Effect.

This Law is well known. As you sow, so will you reap.

Everything that is happening to us and around us is the result of a cause. There are examples of this everywhere in our lives. The tree is there (result) because a seed was planted. It is day (result) when the sun rises (cause), and it is night (result) when the sun sets (cause).

It is a simple law which is well understood most of the time. If we plant an apple tree seed, we expect the result to be an apple tree. If we plant an orange seed, we expect the result to be an orange tree. Simple? Yes. The problem comes when we plant an apple seed and expect the tree to give us oranges! This might sound absurd, but you will be surprised how often our expectations of the results are warped, metaphorically speaking.

For eg. We often ask ‘why am I suffering (Result) now? I haven’t hurt a single fly in my entire life’. Well this may not make sense concerning your present life. How about your previous lifetimes? Youre suffering now (result) can have its cause in a previous life. Which seed(s) you planted in previous lifetime(s), you do not now remember. No use then, of getting angry or blaming God, the Universe for what is happening in your life now.

The Law of Cause and Effect, like all the other Laws of the Universe is an IMMUTABLE Law i.e. it CANNOT BE CHANGED. IT IS CALLED THE LAW OF KARMA. IT IS AN EXACT LAW, APPLICABLE IN LIFE AFTER LIFE AFTER LIFE. THE RESULT IS ALWAYS THE EXACT CONSEQUENCE OF THE CAUSE.

In our existence, what constitutes the seed or cause? It is OUR THOUGHTS, FEELINGS, WORDS AND ACTIONS. Our thoughts and feelings about others, what we say to them, how we behave towards them, and what we do to them all count as causes and they will have their consequences in exact proportion, no more no less.

Thoughts, feelings, words, and deeds of compassion and love towards others, will result in exactly similar consequences. You will be rewarded with compassion and love from others, maybe in this life, maybe in future lives.

Thoughts and feelings of hurtful intent, words of hurtful intent, actions of hurtful intent, will come back to us in equal measure as hurt in this lifetime or in future lifetimes.

So how should we conduct ourselves? Think with care, feel with care, speak with care, and above all, act with care. Understand that whatever you are experiencing in this life is a result of your past thoughts words and deeds and no one is to blame for it but yourself. No need to hold a grudge over others. Just let it go, and think, feel love, speak with love and kindness and act from a place of love and compassion.

As your actions, so your results. The Law of cause and effect is aptly described by the Hindi saying: Jaise Karni Waise Bharni.
